Connecting your own domain name to your restaurant website

A domain of your own, like yourrestaurant.com, makes your business look professional and easier to find. You connect it to your Sitebite site simply by updating two DNS records with your domain provider.

What you need to set up

Sitebite always shows your website without www. So you set up two DNS records with your domain provider:

  • A record on @ (the root domain) → 3.125.250.90
  • CNAME record on www → points to your root domain (e.g. yourrestaurant.com), so www.yourrestaurant.com redirects automatically. If your provider doesn’t allow a CNAME on www, use an A record on www with the same IP address 3.125.250.90 instead.

General steps

  1. Log in to your domain provider and go to the DNS management for your domain.
  2. Remove any existing A or CNAME records on @ and www that point to a different host.
  3. Add the A record on @ with IP address 3.125.250.90.
  4. Add the CNAME record on www pointing to your root domain.
  5. Save the changes. Sitebite automatically arranges the security certificate (https) once the records are active.

GoDaddy

  1. Log in to godaddy.com and go to My Products > Manage DNS for your domain.
  2. Update the A record on @ to 3.125.250.90.
  3. Update the CNAME on www to point to your root domain. If GoDaddy shows an error for a CNAME on www, use an A record with the same IP address instead.
  4. Save the changes.

How long it takes

DNS changes are usually active within a few hours, but in rare cases can take up to 24 hours. Your site remains reachable as normal at its old address in the meantime, until the new settings come into effect.
