Bonnie’s WhatsApp widget on your restaurant website: guests chat without calling
Why WhatsApp on your own website?
A guest finds your restaurant through Google, lands on your site, and wants to ask something quickly. Calling during service often doesn’t happen, and a DM on Instagram goes unseen for hours. With Bonnie on your Sitebite site, that guest starts WhatsApp from the page they already have open. Bonnie answers around the clock, while you stay on the floor.
What you need
- An active Bonnie account with a WhatsApp widget
- A published Sitebite restaurant website
- Your widget key, or the full embed code, from Bonnie
Step 1: set up your widget in Bonnie
Choose your launcher, position, colours, and any multiple locations in the Bonnie widget configurator. This is where you shape the widget itself before bringing it into Sitebite.
Step 2: copy your embed code
Click Copy embed code in the configurator. Look in that snippet for your widget key, which starts with wk_. You can use the full embed or just the widget key.
Step 3: connect Bonnie in Sitebite
- Go to your Sitebite dashboard, choose your site, and open Integrations, then Bonnie.
- Paste the embed code, or enter just your widget key.
- Choose the floating button, that’s the recommended option, and set position and colours.
- Click Save.
What your guests see
A WhatsApp button at the bottom right or left on every page of your site. A guest taps it and Bonnie opens the conversation right away, with no extra tab and no phone number to type out.
Tips for more conversations, and fewer missed calls
- Choose the floating button: it’s visible on your menu, homepage, and contact page, right where guests need it most.
- Don’t let the button sit over your cookie banner or booking widget. Increase the vertical offset if they overlap.
- Match the button colour to WhatsApp green or your own house style.
- Have multiple locations? Paste an embed that includes locations, not just one phone number.
- Bonnie works in more than 20 languages, a nice match for a multilingual Sitebite site.
Bonnie alongside bookings and forms
WhatsApp doesn’t replace your booking widget or contact form. Standard tables still run through Formitable or Zenchef. Bonnie picks up chat and short calls. Longer requests, like from suppliers or job applicants, work better through a contact or request form. Prefer your own WhatsApp number without Bonnie’s AI behind it? Read more about that approach in WhatsApp as a contact channel on your restaurant website.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to paste the embed again if I change something in Bonnie?
Yes, for locations. If you only change colours or position, you can also do that directly in Sitebite without pasting again.
Can I combine Bonnie with Formitable or Zenchef on the same site?
Yes, that’s the normal setup. Chat runs through Bonnie, and the table gets booked through your booking widget.
Does the button work on my mobile site too?
Yes. The floating widget sits at the bottom right or left on every page, on phone too.
How do I change locations or the WhatsApp number?
Paste the embed code again. Once venues are in the embed, the single number field disappears and you manage everything through the locations in the embed.
What’s the difference between the floating button and the embedded website button?
The floating button appears automatically at the bottom right or left on every page. The embedded website button is an advanced option: you place a button with a specific attribute on your page yourself, and Sitebite doesn’t do that automatically for you.
